Resembling a SIM card, the "Access Point Exploit" — Apex — temporarily modifies the Scanner to multiply AP earned for 30 minutes by 2. This means activating the Apex gives the Agent 1 000 AP instead of the regular 500 AP for activating a boost.
While an Apex is activated, a thirty minute (30:00) timer is visible on the Scanner. Returning to the Boost category of the inventory carousel allows Agents to extend Apex for an additional thirty minutes (30:00), up to two hours (2:00:00). Agents cannot stack Apex concurrently (activating two Apex gives them an hour of 2x AP, not thirty minutes of 4x AP).
Apex are not hackable and are acquired in the Store for 2 500 CMU, or in an 8-pack for 15 000 CMU.
An Apex is also awarded in the Field Kits of Level 2 up until Level 7.
Strategy[]
When activating an Apex, it is recommended to have a plan. Having a plan can potentially give the Agent the most AP they can gather in the least amount of time and effort. For example, an Agent can use the Apex:
- When fielding, especially in Portal-dense areas. A plan will increase efficiency.
- Fielding with Battle Beacons and Apex can provide up to 663 000 AP within 15 minutes when playing solo and up to 1 100 000 AP when playing with someone else
- When Glyph hacking a large number of Portals, especially Level 8 Portals.
- Attacking a dense cluster of enemy Portals, and capturing them.
An Apex will double all active AP bonuses during events or otherwise, which increases the potential AP gain even higher. For example, during the yearly anniversary event or the weekly double-AP Tuesday, Apex gives a total effect of 4× AP.
Trivia[]
Both the initial announcement and the support page mention 1.25× AP and 1.5× AP variants of the Apex, however as of now, no plans have been made public that these variants will actually be added to the Scanner.[1][2]
