Media are items that contain hyperlinks to content outside of the Scanner. Unlike other items, Media Media can only be produced during certain timeframes, and some can only be produced from specific Portals.

All Media Media is listed with a Very Common rarity and can be recycled for XM. Like Portal Keys Portal Key, a Media Media will not drop if another Media Media with the same name is in the Agent's inventory. Dropping the Media Media or placing it in a Capsule Capsule will enable an Agent to receive additional copies, as long as the Media Media is not tied to a specific portal. No systematic community studies have been performed to determine the Media Media drop rate.

With the release of Ingress Prime, all Media Media lost their levels in the scanner. However, they still retain their level, which can be checked on the Intel Map with an active  C.O.R.E C.O.R.E. Subscription. While the vast majority of Media Media is Level 1, some rare Media Media can be found up to Level 8.

Contents[]

All Media Media have a title, an image, and a hyperlink.

Media Media have promoted official merchandise, such as the Ingress Origins Media Media that dropped from retailers and linked to a pre-order form.

Many of the videos and pictures linked from Media Media have contained well-hidden Passcodes.

Strategy[]

Media Media generally do not have any gameplay utility. Many Agents consider them a nuisance, and drop or recycle them immediately to free up inventory space.

Some Agents collect the items. Media Media from the altered-reality games leading up to the #13MAGNUS and Shonin Anomalies contain obfuscated data used in side events and are particularly sought-after.

A popular prank is to load Media Media into a Capsule Capsule, then drop it near an enemy Agent to disappoint him or her and waste time.

During anomalies, one of the challenges can involve hacking special portals which drop special Media Media items tracked by Niantic. Depending on the rules, an agent might have to collect "sets" of Media Media items to score points for their faction.

Trivia[]

  • Media Media is the only item type without an in-scanner description.
  • During the Tesselation, Agents had to solve puzzles which let to a specific portal with unique Media Media, called a Tesserae. Although it was still just a simple Media Media item in the scanner, a screenshot of that Media Media had to be uploaded to the Community Forum to claim the Tesserae for ones faction.
