The Optima Kinetic Challenge Event is focused on completing Programs for the Kinetic Capsule . Due to the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, this event is held over two rounds, with Round 1 being held in March 2021 and Round 2 in September 2021. During both Rounds, temporary Kinetic Capsule  programs were added and the distance of the permanent Programs was reduced. During Round 1, a Bronze Medal was being awarded once four Programs have been completed. Round 2 will award the same Bronze and an additional Silver and Gold tier of the Medal, with progress from the first Round carrying over.

The following temporary Programs have been added to the Kinetic Capsule :

• 2x    Hypercubes (Round 1 only)
  • 10x L4+ Power Cubes

  • 4 km (Round 1 only)

• 8x L8 Resonators
  • 40x L4+ Resonators
  • 6 000 XM (Round 1)/4 000 XM (Round 2)
  • 4 km (Round 1)/2 km (Round 2)

In addition, all permanent Programs in Round 1 and all Programs in Round 2 had their distance reduced to 2 km.

Trivia

• The JARVIS Virus  Program from Round 1 was a reward for the Resistance  after claiming the Resonate the World Weekend event. If the Enlightened  would have won, an ADA Refactor  Program would have been available instead.
• Before the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, the Optima challenge of the Nemesis Sequence was supposed to involve completing 12 Missions for the Bronze tier.
• Both Rounds were plagued by various issues.
  • During the first two hours of the first Round, completed Programs were not counted and could not be backfilled once Niantic fixed the problem. In response, the event was extended by two hours. In addition, all of the temporary Programs had some sort of visual error. The JARVIS Virus  program showed in the Kinetic Capsule interfaces as if an ADA Refactor  will be crafted, and the 2x Hypercube- and 8x L8 Resonator Programs showed that only one item respectively would be crafted when claiming the Program. These errors were purely visual however and the correct items/amount was credited to the Inventory.
  • During the second Round, starting the ADA Refactor  Program awarded the JARVIS Virus  upon completion until Niantic took the program offline. Both Flipcard Programs were also diffrent from what was announced, as they needed 16x L4+ XMP Bursters as opposed to the announced 10x L6+ XMP Bursters.
