Ingress Wiki

This blog is inspired by Juper0's blog "XM Dreams" (also see my comment on it) and contains my visions/dreams/hopes for Ingress, its mechanics and things that I would like to see added or that I think would add to the overall Ingress experience. This blog will overlap with certain parts of the "XM Dreams" because I like most of the ideas Juper0 mentioned in it but I aim to offer a different take or perspective on them as I already did in my comment and I will also present some unique ideas I personally came up with. Maybe I will even update this blog from time to time if I come up with any additional ideas or make a Part II of this but I can not promise anything.

I am looking forward to constructive criticism and civil discussions about the ideas mentioned here because in my personal experience discussions are a very good way to turn decent ideas into good or even great ones.

Upgradeable Portal Mods[]

This one is really easy because the title basically says it all. And quite frankly why should Mods not be upgradeable like Resonators Resonator are? What is the difference apart from the fact that there are a total of eight levels of Resonators Resonator and only three (or four) "levels" (or rarities) e.g. of Portal Shields Portal Shield, Link Amps Link Amp, Multi-Hacks Multi-Hack, Heat Sinks Heat Sink etc., Common, Rare, Very Rare (+Aegis/SoftBank)...

Link/Control Field Δ planner[]

This one is a little more complicated. You know when you're out in the field to create a bunch of Control Fields Δ that you planned on the Intel Map and thought you memorized which Portals you had to link together but after about half an hour or so you get to a Portal that you know was meant to be part of your Control Field Δ but you forgot which Links you had planned from it so you try to zoom out on your Scanner to get a better overview of your surroundings and hopefully remember which Links you need but it doesn't help because the zoom is too limited? Wouldn't it be great to be able to plan Links and Control Fields Δ on the Intel Map or the Scanner and then either save them to your account or generate a code or something that you can type into your Scanner and which would then highlight those Portal Keys Portal Key in the "available Links"-screen of each Portal that you need to create the Links you planned from said Portal? I don't know about you but I think it would.

Portal Key Portal Key sorting in Key Locker[]

This one is also simple. I would like to be able to sort the Portal Keys Portal Key in my Key Lockers by four parameters:

  1. Faction
  2. Portal level
  3. Number of Resonators Resonator
  4. Energy percentage/State of decay (of the Resonators Resonator)

These parameters obviously change constantly so having live-synchronization for them would not be feasible but just like those parameters change so does distance between you and the Portals but you can still sort the Portal Keys Portal Key by distance and I would suggest to use the same principal with the parameters above: When you open the Key Locker and the information of all the Portal Keys Portal Key is synchronized the sorting is updated according to the information rechieved, just like it is done with the distance to the Portal.

Portal Key Portal Key changes[]

Portal Key changes

You know how the Resonator-columns of Portal Keys Portal Key from neutral Portals are grey and the one's of Portal Keys Portal Key from non-neutral Portals are either green or blue regardless of whether there's actually a Resonator Resonator in the slot or not? I personally would really prefer it if all empty Resonator Resonator slots would be shown as grey and only the one's that actually have a Resonator Resonator in them would be coloured.

"Cold finger"-mode for Glyph hacking[]

You know when you are out there in the cold Glyph hacking Portals but at some point your fingers get so cold that the screen is periodically not registering your touch anymore so you fail every Glyph even though you memorized them all? My solution to that problem: A "Cold finger"-mode that you could activate and which changes the nodes in the Glyph hacking-screen to buttons so instead of sliding your finger over the right nodes to put in the Glyph you instead need to push the right node-buttons (which select all nodes in between the one you just pressed and last one you selected) and when you're done you press continue to put the next Glyph in.

Glyph hacking changes[]

Really?! Glyphs like Unbounded Glyph, Open All Glyph or Star Glyph give the same base bonus as Glyphs like Less Glyph, New Glyph or Forget Glyph? I would suggest that the base bonus should depend on the number of nodes involved in creating each Glyph e.g. 3% bonus per node so Less Glyph would give 9% bonus instead of 10% but Unbounded Glyph would give a bonus of 33%. Also larger/more complicated Glyphs take longer to put in so you get less speed bonus when you get one of those so in my opinion it would be fair if the Glyph itself would give a higher bonus. It would also be cool if you could get Glyph hacking streak bonus meaning you'd get an increasing bonus for every perfect Glyph hack streak (meaning every perfect Glyph hack in a row). That bonus could either be in higher quantity or better yet higher quality of the hacked items.

Agent Icon colour changes[]

Ingress Agent Icon creation screen

Why can't I have a real Enlightened greenEnlightened Logo in my Agent Avatar? Instead the only green colour I can select for the icon/Glyph is this green abomination which in my opinion looks more like vomit than anything else. Even worse, for the background there is this green which still isn't Enlightened greenEnlightened Logo but WAY better than the only one available for the icon.

PS: The blue doesn't look any better either.

Portal hacking streak counter[]

Just a little counter on each Portal that tells you how many days in a row you have already hacked it.

Tracking changes[]

I can't be faster than 6 km/h otherwise it doesn't count towards the Trekker-medal? I am quite a tall guy and most of that height comes from my legs so my steps are quite large as well meaning there's a good chance that I am faster than 6 km/h most of the time or at least in a brisk walk. All I can say is that I had classmates that when I was in a brisk walk to get something to eat during the breaks they were basically force to jog alongside me. Also people that do actual jogging or are riding a bike also don't get their distance counted towards the Trekker-medal if they are faster than 6 km/h which let's face it most of them probably are. My suggestion would be to increase the speed limit to something along the lines of 25 km/h because that way you still exclude most if not all motorized means of transportation but include most muscle based ones.

Pathfinding[]

A map inside the Scanner with a 5-10km radius from your current position on which you can select Portals and get an in-Scanner navigation to them.

Changes to Dronenet[]

Three things:
A: Why can't I recharge a Portal that I have a Portal Key Portal Key of and that my Drone is on while I am in the Dronenet-screen? Recharging isn't a Drone action, I get it but I do have a Portal Key Portal Key so there's no need to to prevent me from recharging the Portal just because I am in the Drone-screen and my Drone is currently at the Portal. I mean I can recharge all other Portals in range of the Drone inside of the Drone-screen already just not the one the Drone is currently at which I find ridiculous.
B: Why can't I move my Drone from Portal to Portal or hack one when the Scanner hasn't acquired my position yet? The Scanner knows where the Drone is and that's all it (should) need so the only things that should require my position is sending the Drone to a Portal and recalling it from one.
C: It would also be cool if the Drone was able to travel along Links to all Portals the current Portal is linked to even if they would normally be out of range for the Drone. Just a thought.

Changes to Power Cube Power Cube usage UI[]

Agent's XM bar

I personally think it would be convenient if the Scanner UI would show Agents how full their XM reserves would become if they use the Power Cube Power Cube they have currently selected in the "Power Cube Power Cube roundel" when opened.

Wow, you made it to the end. Take a deep breath cause I know it's quite a lot to take in. Now feel free to start a discussion in the comments. Also take a look at Juper0's blog "XM Dreams" (and my comment on it) if you feel like it.

PS: If you choose to start a discussion in the comments, criticize me or whatever here's some important information: I am from Germany. What that is supposed to mean? Simple, no need to beat around the bush. In Germany we are generally much more direct and prefer it that way. It's not impolite to be direct.

PPS: Also please don't hold your opinion back just because I am one of the Admins here. This is my personal blog and has absolutely nothing to do with the Ingress Wiki or my role in it.
